Lung 7 Location
- Lung 7 is located proximal to the styloid process of the radius, 1.5 cun above the transverse crease of the wrist, in a groove in the radius, between two barely perceptible tendons.
Lung 7 Needling
- To needle Lung 7, use a transverse insertion to a maximum depth of 0.5 cun.
- Once the needle is secure, slightly lifting the skin in the region of Lung 7 allows for easier insertion.
Lung 7 TCM Theory
Lung 7 is the opening point for the Ren Mai and the coupled or closing point is Kidney 6.
To open the Ren Mai, Lung 7 is needled first, classically on the right for women and the left for men, and then Kidney 6 is needled, classically on the left for women and the right for men.
At the end of the treatment, the needles are removed in reverse order so that Kidney 6 is removed first followed by Lung 7.
The main TCM actions of Lung 7 are:
- It Releases the Exterior in cases of invasion by an External Pathogenic Factor.
- It descends and disperses Lung Qi in cases of fullness of the chest, asthma, nasal congestion and oedema in the upped jiao or face due to the build up Phlegm or Body fluids.
- It opens the Ren Mai when combined with Kidney 6.
